Bols was the oldest member of the Jaegers. Before joining them, he was a member of the Incineration Squad. He wore a mask that obscured his face. Not much is known about him other than the fact that he was married and had a child. Despite his appearance, he seemed to be shy around other people, staring at Wave for several minutes before finally introducing himself. He was a skilled cook and often made meals for the team. Bols was always seen wearing his mask as an incineration squad member
and has a gasoline tank mounted at his back for his flamethrower. He
wears long gloves over his hands which serve not only to help him when
using the flamethrower, but also for protecting Bols from attacks. He
also had a scar on his upper chest.
Contrary his grizzly appearance, Bols is a very kind and caring person. He is also quite shy and timid, a good example of this was him making a long pause before first introducing himself to Wave or when he keeps his mask on despite his wife complaining that his face wouldn't cause trouble for others. Despite his kind and caring personality, Bols is wracked with guilt over the jobs he's had incinerating villages and believes that one day karma will catch up to him; however, he still does his job for the sake of his wife and children. Due to him having incinerated many villages and the people dwelling in them, he is thus very reluctant to kill mass groups of people who he believes have no crime at all. This led him to believe that many people despised him and swear vengeance on him. Bols loves his family very much and will always be composed so long as they are fine. His love for his family was shown to be very strong when his last act in his life was to attempt to return to his home in order to see them one last time before dying.
Bols' death affected Kurome and Wave greatly, with Kurome flying into a rage upon realizing that Chelsea had killed him and ordering her brutal death.
Following his death, his daughter and wife were killed by Syura and other members of Wild Hunt at his grave. This cruelty, especially towards someone he respected so much, sent Wave over the edge. After punching Syura in the face when he threatened Kurome, Wave defeats Syura in a fair one-on-one battle.
The way Run defeated Champ was also a shout-out to Bols, as it represented an allegorical vision of him having come down as an Angel to avenge his daughter. Bols wielded a flamethrower Teigu, named Purgatory's Invitation: Rubicante. With this weapon, he was seen setting large groups of enemies on fire that will not extinguish even if the target submerges themselves in water. He had impressive strength as one could expect from a man of his physique, and can beat Danger Beasts into submission with his bare hands.
Aside from his fighting capabilities, Bols is actually a good cook, and is the one who usually prepares food or tea for his fellow Jaegers.
