Rize Kamishiro

Rize Kamishiro (神代 利世, Kamishiro Rize) is a ghoul that was hanging out at Anteiku. She set her eyes on Ken Kaneki, but moments before eating him, she was injured in an accident and her organs were transplanted in Ken Kaneki, making him half-ghoul. Rize is also known under her nickname Binge Eater (大喰い, Binge Eater or Gluttony, literally Big Eater). Because of her eating habits, Rize was a threat to most ghouls of the 11th ward and 20th ward. It has been revealed that her name may be fake by Itori. Her relation with Matasaka Kamishiro is unclear. She appears to be a shy, slender girl with long purple hair, purple eyes, and an hourglass figure. As a ghoul blending into human society, she wears a normal attire fit for a young woman, though her attire reveals some cleavage, possibly to seduce and allure males as her prey. Rize is very attractive and is aware of this fact, often manipulating it to her advantage.

Rize is a voracious, independent ghoul who acts as a femme fatale to those who fall victim to her charms. She is an enigmatic female with many aquaintances whom are left with a mysterious impression of her and those who come into conflict with her rarely come out alive, with the exception of Banjou, who finds her self-dependence and strength attractive. She has no ambitions and wanders the wards aimlessly to appease her boredom. 6 months before the steel frame accident, Rize Kamishiro lived in 11th Ward. Her activities made the ghoul investigators move in that ward. She decided to leave when the ghoul investigators started to act. Before she left, she killed Hagi, the leader of the ghouls of 11th Ward, and two other ghouls. Rize was targeting Kaneki who had a crush on her. After she won the chance of dating him for manipulation purpose, she led him to a deserted place where she began hunting. Revealing that she is a ghoul, Kaneki had also to realize the odds on her he noticed before while escaping. Then she went after him and wounded him a fatal injury in the abdomen. Just before giving Kaneki a finishing blow, steel bars suddenly falls on her from far up leading an "accident". The two of them went to Kanou General Hospital, where Prof. Akihiro Kanou made the decision of transplanting Rize's organs into Kaneki reasoning that she was a hopeless case and Kaneki needed her organs immediately.

During Yamori's torture sessions, Kaneki begins seeing a hallucination of Rize in his mind, who helps him embrace his new side that eventually Beat Yamori. It is in this period of time when Kaneki has a flashback about his mother and how she ended up dying from over exhaustion. Ever since it has been revealed that doctor Kanou is using her to create more artificial ghouls that like Kaneki during the invasion on the Aogiri hideout, Kaneki has been looking for people sharing her traits. Ken was shocked to see Rize still captive in the lab and Kanou revealed that he created more humans into one eye ghouls which angered Ken and Rize was rescued by Renji during the raid. Kaneki visited Renji, who lives in a container, to question Rize's whereabouts and about how Yoshimura is associated with the Aogiri Tree. After noticing Rize's presence inside another container, he proceeded to cut open the wall with his kagune and approached her. Rize however was in a state of extreme hunger and bind down, thus going crazy and couldn't recognize anyone. While in her starving state, she helplessly struggled from her confines pleading for meat and called her father.Rize is considered strong even among powerful ghouls, and her Kagune is well capable of taking down multiple opponents in one go. She was ranked 8th in the character popularity poll. Sen Takatsuki's The Black Goat's Egg was a book Rize and Kaneki liked reading from chapter Coincidentally, the book's setting and characters shows a resemblance of the two. Rize is similar to the black goat that has a gluttonous appetite for humans, and Kaneki who was transplanted with Rize's organs can be interpreted as the black goat's child. Kaneki's experiences in the ghoul world and the struggles with his ghoul nature show a parallel to the book's protagonist.
