Rize Kamishiro (神代 利世, Kamishiro Rize) is a ghoul that was hanging out at Anteiku. She set her eyes on Ken Kaneki, but moments before eating him, she was injured in an accident and her organs were transplanted in Ken Kaneki, making him half-ghoul. Rize is also known under her nickname Binge Eater (大喰い, Binge Eater or Gluttony, literally Big Eater). Because of her eating habits, Rize was a threat to most ghouls of the 11th ward and 20th ward. It has been revealed that her name may be fake by Itori. Her relation with Matasaka Kamishiro is unclear. She appears to be a shy, slender girl with long purple hair, purple eyes, and an hourglass figure. As a ghoul blending into human society, she wears a normal attire fit for a young woman, though her attire reveals some cleavage, possibly to seduce and allure males as her prey. Rize is very attractive and is aware of this fact, often manipulating it to her advantage.
Rize is a voracious, independent ghoul who acts as a femme fatale to those who fall victim to her charms. She is an enigmatic female with many aquaintances whom are left with a mysterious impression of her and those who come into conflict with her rarely come out alive, with the exception of Banjou, who finds her self-dependence and strength attractive. She has no ambitions and wanders the wards aimlessly to appease her boredom. 6 months before the steel frame accident, Rize Kamishiro lived in 11th Ward. Her activities made the ghoul investigators move in that ward. She decided to leave when the ghoul investigators started to act. Before she left, she killed Hagi, the leader of the ghouls of 11th Ward, and two other ghouls. Rize was targeting Kaneki who had a crush on her. After she won the chance of dating him for manipulation purpose, she led him to a deserted place where she began hunting. Revealing that she is a ghoul, Kaneki had also to realize the odds on her he noticed before while escaping. Then she went after him and wounded him a fatal injury in the abdomen. Just before giving Kaneki a finishing blow, steel bars suddenly falls on her from far up leading an "accident". The two of them went to Kanou General Hospital, where Prof. Akihiro Kanou made the decision of transplanting Rize's organs into Kaneki reasoning that she was a hopeless case and Kaneki needed her organs immediately.
During Yamori's torture sessions, Kaneki begins seeing a hallucination of Rize in his mind, who helps him embrace his new side that eventually Beat Yamori. It is in this period of time when Kaneki has a flashback about his mother and how she ended up dying from over exhaustion. Ever since it has been revealed that doctor Kanou is using her to create more artificial ghouls that like Kaneki during the invasion on the Aogiri hideout, Kaneki has been looking for people sharing her traits. Ken was shocked to see Rize still captive in the lab and Kanou revealed that he created more humans into one eye ghouls which angered Ken and Rize was rescued by Renji during the raid. Kaneki visited Renji, who lives in a container, to question Rize's whereabouts and about how Yoshimura is associated with the Aogiri Tree. After noticing Rize's presence inside another container, he proceeded to cut open the wall with his kagune and approached her. Rize however was in a state of extreme hunger and bind down, thus going crazy and couldn't recognize anyone. While in her starving state, she helplessly struggled from her confines pleading for meat and called her father.Rize is considered strong even among powerful ghouls, and her Kagune is well capable of taking down multiple opponents in one go. She was ranked 8th in the character popularity poll. Sen Takatsuki's The Black Goat's Egg was a book Rize and Kaneki liked reading from chapter Coincidentally, the book's setting and characters shows a resemblance of the two. Rize is similar to the black goat that has a gluttonous appetite for humans, and Kaneki who was transplanted with Rize's organs can be interpreted as the black goat's child. Kaneki's experiences in the ghoul world and the struggles with his ghoul nature show a parallel to the book's protagonist.

Uta
Uta (ウタ, Uta) is an old friend of Renji Yomo and Itori. He owns the HySy ArtMask Studio, where he sells bespoke masks. In his teenage years, he was known as No Face to the CCG investigators in the 4th ward. His body is covered in tattoos and his kakugan always remains visible. Kaneki describes his appearance as being a little scary. As a teen, his hair colour was a lot lighter, swept back and kept down sometimes with a hairband. He did not have any of his tattoos during this time. His ghoul mask is an expressionless face with a stitching design similar to a voodoo doll covering the eyes and the white surface. The tattoo on his neck is a Latin quote written in Greek letters (I can live neither with you, nor without you.He has a very nice way of speaking and seems to be friendly. Although his expression almost never changes, he has an amusing way of teasing people.
Uta was sadistic and savage from his youth, and though the narrative would have the reader believe he left those ways behind, it was not true. Once his affiliation with the clowns becomes apparent in the manga, it is revealed that he hasn't changed at all - only gotten better at hiding it. Like all members of his organization, he revels in creating chaos and destruction. His betrayal also partially lead to a sudden second collapse in Kaneki's mental health, leaving him vulnerable to the critical injuries inflicted by Kishou Arima. Ken Kaneki and Touka Kirishima went to his shop, the HySy ArtMask Studio, to get a mask for Kaneki. While taking Kaneki's measurements, he talked with Kaneki about Touka and the risk factor of the varying wards ghouls inhabit.By chance, Uta brought Kaneki's newly-made mask to Anteiku just when Touka and Kaneki had stopped training. He made Kaneki wear his new mask. He remarked that he placed the eyepatch on the right side because he wanted to see Kaneki's left eye. Gourmet Arc He is only seen here when Kaneki is taken to Helter Skelter, the bar the Itori owns. The two of them shock Kaneki when Itori wears one of Uta's masks to scare him. They are then shown having a pleasant conversation together at the bar, discussing his and Renji's past and how the 4th Ward is now dangerous because of them.
Uta is a part of the team that goes to save Kaneki when he is kidnapped by the Aogiri. He accompanies Yomo, Touka, Nishiki and Tsukiyama in the endeavor. Sometime later, Tsukiyama remarks that Uta, though having his kakugan active, isn't actually using his full power. Uta answers by telling him he doesn't think he needs to be serious right now, and that he is only here for Kaneki and so he doesn't get lazy. Despite not being at full power, he is able to keep up with Renji and Tsukiyama. When they finally find Kaneki, Uta is the only one who tries to comfort him after what he has been through. Uta gives Kaneki information about the CCG's Reaper, mentioning how strong and invincible he is. Whilst at V14, and finally facing Arima, Kaneki is stunned by his exceptional abilities. Kaneki suffers a psychotic break, disassociates, and it leads to his easy downfall. Uta is revealed to be a member of the Clowns and he was seen celebrating along with the other clown members.Uta is an excellent mask designer creating many of the ghoul masks seen in the 20th ward. Like other ghouls he has enhanced strength, speed, and reflexes than that of a human. His body is also able to regenerate, and isn't affected by normal human weapons. In his teenage years, he was quite capable of defeating multiple ghouls at once. His strength led him to become the "peacemaker" of the 4th ward. His interactions with Kaneki and various other characters indicate that he is quite skilled at deception and manipulation, proficient to the point of being able to fool even close friends such as Touka and Yomo.

Ayato Kirishima
Ayato Kirishima (霧嶋 絢都, Kirishima Ayato) is Touka Kirishima's younger brother. He grew up with his sister in the 20th ward but at some point in time, he left the district. According to Kazuichi Banjou, Ayato subsequently began to wander all the wards of Tokyo, bringing sheer wreckage and chaos upon them, until his unique powers and abilities caught Tatara’s eye. Ayato was therefore pulled into joining Aogiri Tree, where he is currently an Executive. Ayato bears a striking resemblance to his sister, and has a rough-looking, rebellious image, while normally displaying either a scowl or smirk on his face. He is a quite tall and lean young man, with blue eyes and long, blue messy hair which sweeps down in front of his eyes. He wears a hooded, long-sleeved black leather jacket, and black pants, along with knee-high black boots. Ayato also has a piercing on his left ear, and usually wears a ring on the pinky finger of his right hand.
An arrogant, brash teenager, with a similar hot-blooded attitude resembling his sister's. Other than his physicalities, he shares many similarities with Touka, such as his tendency to use language that is often coarse or inappropriate. He has a habit for kicking people over the simplest mistakes; such as when Kaneki failed to address him with the desired honorific, or when Banjou didn’t return his missed calls. However, he seems to be more harsh compared to his sister, but admits himself to be surprisingly nicer than his Aogiri superiors. He is a firm believer in the notion that ‘the weak perish and the strong survive,’ which was triggered by the death of his mother and father. Ayato bears deep grudges against his father, Arata, for abandoning him and Touka when they were young. Ayato has even stated that the whole reason for hating Kaneki was his resemblance to Arata. It was also pointed out by Kaneki that Ayato cares deeply for Touka subconsciously, as shown when he beat her down first rather than allowing her to suffer a slow, torturous death from Yamori. Ayato also seems to have a soft spot for rabbits. Ayato resided in the 20th ward with his sister Touka, under the care of their father, Arata. Arata lived his life like humans did; he usually took Ayato and Touka to the library to study, and even convinced them to eat food offered by humans; for he believed that ghouls should try to blend in with human society by adapting their behavioral patterns. Ayato however, supposed that it was solely a human’s world, and that ghouls weren’t “normal.” He and Touka also cared for a bird, where Ayato was shown to dislike earthworms and insects. One night before Arata set out on his regular scavenging routine, Ayato made a promise to him that he’d protect Touka whenever she was in trouble. After Arata never returned, Ayato assumed that his father had died by Ghoul Investigators finding and killing him. Touka and Ayato visited a woman named Satou to tell her of their father’s disappearance. She offered them human food, but when they refused, Satou stuffed the food in Ayato’s mouth, and so both siblings were sold out. They managed to escape as Touka used her kagune to kill the investigators.
Ayato is first seen at the Aogiri Hideout in the 11th ward, enraged by the fact that he sent Kazuichi Banjou on a mission to capture Rize Kamishiro, but doesn’t answer his phone calls. Ayato, thinking that Yakumo Oomori and Nico would capture Rize before him, visits the 20th ward, where he barges into Anteiku upon hearing Banjou telling Kaneki that he should run away from the incoming danger. He kicks Banjou in the arm, cracking his bones, and threatens to give him another beating. Ayato is suddenly faced with his elder sister Touka Kirishima, and when asked where he wandered off to after walking out of her life, Ayato says that he has been ‘studying the world,’ for he would never proclaim himself to be a ‘peaceful idiot.’ Ayato becomes disappointed when he sees Yamori at Anteiku as well, but when Nico points out that Kaneki is indeed the one that smells like Rize, Ayato co-operates with Yamori to capture Kaneki. When Touka puts up a resistance by not wanting them to take Kaneki, she counters Yamori but is confronted by Ayato. Ayato, punching her in the face, compares Touka to their dead parents, calling her a ‘weakling.’ Touka thrusts her kagune at him, but he blocks the attack with one of his wings. With his own kagune activated, Ayato pledges to show her that ghouls are truly above humans. Ayato then beats her down effortlessly, subsequently ordering Banjou to stuff an unconscious Kaneki in a bag and head back to the 11th ward. When asked if they should take Touka as well, Ayato desists, saying that she would just weight them down. At the Hideout, Ayato is the first person to approach Kaneki when he wakes up. He orders Kaneki to follow him, but when Kaneki shows concern for Touka’s well-being, Ayato kicks him, telling him that he is not allowed to talk, and should be obedient at the slightest order he is given. Ayato then admits himself to be a ‘softy,’ in comparison to his superiors. He then takes Kaneki to a meeting to meet Tatara, but when Tatara refuses Kaneki, Ayato is told to do what he wanted with him. Ayato then locks Kaneki away in a room. Later on, during the CCG’s raid on the Aogiri Hideout, he is seen beside the Bin Brothers, battling the ghoul investigators.

Kishou Arima
Kishou Arima (有馬 貴将, Arima Kishō) is a famed Special Class Ghoul Investigator known as the CCG's Reaper (CCGの死神, CCG no Shinigami). He is undefeated as a Ghoul Investigator and at some point was formerly partnered with Take Hirako. He is the protagonist of the spin-off Tokyo Ghoul: Jack, alongside Taishi Fura. His investigative skills and prowess in combat has led many investigators, such as Koutarou Amon, to admire him. Arima is a fairly tall man that has unusually long white colored hair. He is always seen wearing his glasses, with his face kept in an apathetic expression, rarely showing any emotion if not at all. Arima is also a well dressed individual who wears, like all ghoul investigators, a suit and tie, and, when on duty, a white overcoat.
During his youth at Seishin Senior Highschool, he was mostly seen dressed in his standard school uniform. He also always carried on his back what was perceived to be a 'guitar case.' However this was only a concealment for his blade quinque, Yukimura which he used to fight ghouls. He also had dark blue hair. Arima has a very calm personality, remaining unperturbed and composed even when surrounded by twenty-five ghouls. He is also an overly strict mentor, as seen when he reprimands Hirako for being off on his attack by 0.01 seconds. As a teenager, Arima exerted the same personality, and also noted his main hobby to be ghoul extermination. He has a very cold and calculating approach to exterminating ghouls as shown when he was about to finish off Renji, and Yoshimura appeared suddenly, instead of panicking or attacking he merely greeted the ghoul. Arima was shown to respect the dead as he reprimanded Itsuki Marude when he talked ill about Mado after his death. While the author describes him as massive and sadist, Arima has yet to display any signs of sadism at all. He has indicated that despite his stoic personality, he is capable of forming friendships, as he borrowed Haise Sasaki's book, and Akira Mado described his feelings towards Sasaki as "parental love". Arima is also not beyond complimenting his ghoul opponents as he did so when Kaneki damaged his quinque, Ixa.
Arima was hailed as a genius within the CCG, stemming from his affiliation with the organization since his teens. He was personally selected by CCG's chairman Tsuneyoshi Washuu to be promoted to a 3rd class investigator. Due to his outstanding talent, he was promoted to 2nd class investigator in less than a year. During the what was thought to be One-Eyed Owl's third attack in the 2nd ward, he gathered all the Special Class Investigator quinques and worked his way up to the One-Eyed Owl. He was the one who dealt fatal damage to the One-Eyed Owl resulting in a CCG victory. At some point, he also had an encounter with Yomo as well as Uta's group, dealing most of the damage to the both of them as well as subduing Yomo with ease before he was rescued by Yoshimura. Arima attended Mado's funeral and after Itsuki Marude had expressed his aversion to Kureo Mado's work ethic and fixation on Quinques at Mado's funeral service, Arima reprimanded him. After being given the missions to ambush any fleeing ghouls and neutralize the One-Eyed Owl, Arima was stationed within the underground route V14 where he had slaughtered a vast amount of ghouls by himself. Upon having his gaze fall on Ken Kaneki he quickly approached him with the intention of completing his mission and, without giving off any sudden warning, dealt an attack towards him. Arima had quickly lunged his quinque IXA through the back of Kaneki's skull, piercing his brain and ultimately coming out stabbing his left eye. He then began to easily dodge Kaneki's rapid Kagune strikes without showing much effort before witnessing his sudden emotional outburst. He quickly makes note of who Kaneki is, then mentions that it was raining outside which he knew from the sound of water pouring in, also stating that his sense of time gets dulled when he is underground.

Eto
Eto (エト, Eto) is an executive of Aogiri Tree. Eto is often seen interacting with fellow Aogiri member, Tatara. Her relation with the One-Eyed King is unclear. However the CCG and Nico speculates that they are the same person. As Eto, she has a child-like appearance. Eto's whole body is covered in bandages. When her bandages are removed though, she takes the appearance of a full-grown woman with long hair bangs to the side. Her right eye is a kakugan while her left eye is normal. Her facial features are very similar to her mother. As Takatsuki, she is a young girl in her 20s with light hair and usually has a sleepy or clumsy expression on her face. As the One Eyed Owl, her kakuja creates a mask with one hole on the right eye's position and three zigzag lines on the left, with two lines at the mouth's position slanted downwards.
Due to her human and ghoul nature, Eto has a number of sides to her personality. As a ghoul, she has a sadistic personality, cutting off Shinohara's leg so that he could "match" with Juuzou's injuries and taunting Kurona and Nashiro about their parent's death. Her twisted personality is possibly the result of fighting to stay alive during her early years in the 24th ward.As a result, she has no qualms about remorselessly slaughtering humans and ghouls alike. Like many ghouls, she is able to compartmentalize her ghoul and human alter egos with relative ease. Since she doesn't see any value in human life, this indicates that she has a misanthropic view on humanity. Whether her views on humanity was a factor in her attacks on the CCG is still unknown. As Sen Takatsuki, Eto projects a childish air around her through her actions and overall demeanor. She appears to be quite ditzy at times, oversleeping on the day she was suppose to be signing books and taking photos with admirers when it was prohibited by her manager. Eto/One-Eyed Owl was born to Ukina and Yoshimura as a hybrid human and ghoul being. However, when Ukina was forcefully killed by Yoshimura under the orders of V, the child was hidden in the 24th ward in order to protect its frail life. As Eto grew up in the 24th ward, she came to hate the world and continued to survive; eventually, she became a half-kakuja due to the low human and high ghoul population ratio in the ward. In her youth, Eto first appeared to the CCG during their whack-a-mole hunts and killed Mado's wife as the latter covered for her comrades' retreat.
One day, Eto appeared for the first time and single-handedly killed a Special Class Investigator that was affiliated with the 3rd ward. Eto was assigned a S-rating and then given the nickname X. One month later, Eto executed a large-scale attack on CCG's 2nd ward branch office. The office was heavily damaged and CCG suffered numerous casualties. Eto's rating was increased to SS, and her nickname was changed to 'Owl', due to her plumage-like Kagune. After a report of Eto only having one kakugan, her nickname was again changed to 'One-Eyed Owl'.Afterwards, Eto and other ghouls attacked the Ghoul Detention Center in the 23rd ward. Eto's rating was upgraded to SSS. Later, Eto's faction attacked the 2nd ward for a second time. This time, First Class Investigator Kuroiwa dealt a lethal damage to Owl's kakuhou with his Quinque. However, Kuroiwa himself was seriously injured and could not participate in subsequent operations. Finally, Yoshimura, acting in his daughter's place, attacked the 2nd ward for a third time alone. CCG's team was unable to exterminate Yoshimura. However, the genius Rank 2 Investigator Arima used the Special Class Investigators' quinques as he went up against Yoshimura. Finally, he defeated Yoshimura, leading to CCG's victory. Yoshimura, fatally wounded, vanished after this day ten years ago. Eto attended the meeting where Kaneki was brought before Tatara. At the end of the meeting, Tatara left the Aogiri hideout's affairs to Noro. Tatara predicted that the doves would come soon and ordered Noro to follow their plan. Then, Tatara left with Eto to meet comrades that were waiting for them.

Touka Kirishima
Touka Kirishima (霧嶋 董香, Kirishima Tōka) is a ghoul and worker at Anteiku. While hunting, she wears a rabbit mask and her alias is Rabbit (ラビット). She is a second year student at Kiyomi High School. A distinct feature are her long bangs that cover her right eye. After the Aogiri arc, her hair grows longer and now reaches to the back of her neck. On the outside, she is considered a cute, normal girl that one wouldn't suspect to be a ghoul. Normally in either waitress or high school uniform, she prefers to wear tomboyish clothes in her free time. In her ghoul alter-ego, she wears a long coat jacket, rabbit mask and blonde, or sometimes a pink wig to conceal her identity. Her rash attitude comes from having to live a "hard-working" double-life of a human and ghoul identity. As a human, she is seen as a normal girl attending school with normal friends and being a café waitress.
As a ghoul, she reveals a more reckless and ruthless personality full of hatred for CCG's investigators. This stems from the fact that her family was torn apart by CCG and she had to live a fugitive life until leading a more docile life by attending school. After being separated from her brother Ayato, she grows to appreciate her human life and starts to desperately hold onto it. As Shuu Tsukiyama notes, she had previously looked more dangerous and cold but has somewhat softened up because of her friends and possibly Ken Kaneki's influence. When Touka was fourteen years old, she expressed a much colder demeanor, and displayed a harsh glare, but these traits subsided over the years. Touka suffers from ornithophobia. This may have stemmed from caring for a bird when she was a child only to be pecked near her right eye that she then covers with a hair bang. Touka resided in the 20th ward with her younger brother Ayato, and her father, Arata; where her father lived his life by blending in with the human society, by taking them to the library and even convincing them to eat human food. Touka always seemed to have more faith and confidence in her father than Ayato did. Touka and Ayato began caring for a bird, where she was shown to have a fondness for birds and collecting earthworms. On the night before Arata was captured by Ghoul Investigators, Touka promised her father that she would teach Ayato many things as an elder sister.
When Arata never came back, Touka believed that he was still alive, and berated Ayato for thinking that he was killed. The siblings visited Satou, where they were forced to eat human food; eventually being sold out as Ghoul Investigators approached them. In order to protect herself and Ayato, Touka unleashed her kagune for the first time, killing the investigators. Touka and Ayato ran away from home immediately. After some time they found Anteiku, and were taken care of by Yoshimura. As they grew up, the siblings acquired power, occasionally fighting against Shuu Tsukiyama as well. Touka was offered a school life, and to repay Anteiku, she was asked to work as a waitress at the coffee shop. She met Yoriko at school, but Ayato was against the idea of interacting with humans, telling her that she’d die if she continued to befriend humans. After Ayato left Anteiku, Touka heard of his malevolent actions on the 14th ward and other districts of Tokyo. Touka appeared first as a waitress serving both Ken Kaneki and his best friend, Hideyoshi Nagachika in Anteiku. She also passed beside Kaneki and Rize Kamishiro after their date, and stopped to glance at the two. Her friend Yoriko Kosaka asked her what was wrong, and so she answered her it was nothing. She later revealed herself being a ghoul to Kaneki, thinking he was a ghoul, after killing a drunk old man who insulted her. She was confused with Kaneki having only one Kakugan and being the human whom Rize targeted. When she asked him about it, he ran away. Soon after, Kaneki came to her begging for help. Touka refused to help a former human and told him to go off and die on his own. However, the manager of Anteiku, Yoshimura, rebuked her and gave Kaneki a portion of human meat. One day, she passed through a place that was Rize's feeding ground and saw Nishiki attacking Kaneki saying that it is his ground. At that moment, Touka went and declared that this place wasn't Nishiki's feeding ground, but Rize Kamishiro's. Nishiki retorted that this was originally his feeding ground until Rize came, but Touka, unfazed, responded that the feeding grounds would be re-alloted among the weaker ghouls and that it was his own fault for being too weak. Angered, Nishiki attacked Touka, but was immediately defeated.

Ken Kaneki
Ken Kaneki (金木 研, Kaneki Ken) is the protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re. Formerly a human studying Japanese Literature at Kamii University, and first living a normal life, his life was soon changed after he had Rize's kakuhou transplanted into him and became a One-Eyed Ghoul.[2] After joining Anteiku as a part-time waiter, he learns how to live as a Ghoul and became known as Eyepatch (眼帯, Gantai). After being captured by Aogiri Tree, he was able to accept his ghoul side, forming a team under the goal of protecting the ones precious to him and "picking out" people who threaten the place he belongs to. Because of his Kakuja's distinct appearance, the CCG gave him the nickname Centipede (百足, Mukade). He is currently living under the identity of Haise Sasaki (佐々木 琲世, Sasaki Haise), as a Rank 1 Ghoul Investigator, serving as the mentor of the CCG's Quinx Squad and a member of Team Mado. However, his memories of his past have been lost, leaving him unaware of his true self.
As a child, Kaneki had all the same features he has now as an adult. As a normal university student, Kaneki is a scrawny young man with little to no athletic background who prefers to read books. In his free time, he wears casual clothes. At work, he wears the regular Anteiku waiter uniform, consisting of black trousers and a black waistcoat over a white dress shirt and a black necktie. Because he can't properly control his one kakugan that manifests in his left eye, he wore a medical eyepatch to cover it. His ghoul mask shows resemblance to a leather gimp mask with an eyepatch and lipless grin that shows artificial teeth, much like a restrained asylum monster. The bolts sticking out of his neck and the fact that he is an artificial ghoul, gives him a Frankenstein theme. After being tortured by Yamori for a period of ten days, his hair became white and his nails turned black because of heavy mental stress, anxiety and continuous regeneration. He also began wearing a form fitting black outfit when he had the intention of fighting as a ghoul, both for intimidation and practicality. After the timeskip, his white hair is now adorned by black streaks which have grown out from the center and his nail are no longer black. Similar to the other Ghoul Investigators, Kaneki is seen well dressed in the standard suit and tie most of the time. When embarking on a mission, he wears a white trench coat over his uniform and occasionally carries a briefcase with him.
In the first chapter, Kaneki and Hide listened to the news about ghoul attacks in the 20th ward while in Anteiku. Hide wondered if Touka was Kaneki's new crush that he wanted to show him, but Kaneki denied it. Instead, He pointed to Rize as she entered the café. After Hide had left the place, Kaneki ended up being arranged to a date with Rize. However, Rize turned out to be a ghoul targeting Kaneki, which she revealed after tricking Kaneki into entering a isolated alley. During her attack, Kaneki was wounded in the abdomen by her kagune, but steel bars fell on her and apparently killed her before she could kill him. To save his life, the staff of the Kanou General Hospital under the direction of Dr. Kanou decided to transplant Rize's organs into him. From then on, Kaneki became a half-human, half-ghoul. After the accident, Kaneki hid the fact that Rize was a ghoul. He found everything he ate tasted disgusting and he was hardly able to eat normal food, so he started to live only on water for days. Around that time he realized that ghouls were also unable to eat normal food, his hunger struck him. Unable to find anything to satisfy his hunger, he wandered the streets. At that time, he found out that the waitress, Touka, from Anteiku was also a ghoul when she killed a human in front of him. In terror, he ran away. He soon saw that he could barely keep himself in check. Since he thought the organ transplant was the reason for his transformation, he tried to get rid of the transplanted organs, but was unsuccessful. Desperate, he turned to Touka for help. Touka refused to give assistance, but Anteiku's manager Yoshimura kindly gave Kaneki human meat to satisfy his hunger.
